I've never really understood the fascination for cricket. In its capacity to induce severe boredom it ranks right up there with Golf, Crown Green Bowling and competitive walking. So imagine the horror of being given the job of "over-by-over" cricket reporter for Guardian Unlimited, the online sister to The Guardian newspaper.
This report of the recent India v New Zealand match says it all. A reporter pushed to the edge by life in the city has the added torture of posting regular updates on a cricket match and finally he flips.
