Beauties with a conscience have tried to prevent the terrible sentence imposed on a Nigerian woman found guilty of sex outside of wedlock.
Amina Lawal was first sentenced in March for having sex out of wedlock - a ruling since upheld by an Islamic high court in the northern state of Katsina.
Nigeria is due to host the Miss World contest in November but at least 3 contestants have threatened to pull out if the sentence is not overturned. Just goes to show that even a beauty contest can be used as a tool for political change.
