Here's Freddy!

On Saturday Sharon and I went to a party for a good friend's birthday. Whilst there, we met an old friend whom we hadn't seen for several months and his current girlfriend.

They'd been dating now for a couple of months and whilst the four of us were stood in the kitchen (always the best place at parties) he recounted an event from their first "romantic weekend" that had me in stitches.

Wishing to make an impression for there first weekend away, he'd booked them into an "idyllic, rustic hotel". Upon arrival they had rapidly realised that idyllic and rustic translated to old. With the addition of a few cobwebs, the hotel would have passed for the stereo typical set of a haunted house horror film. The atmosphere of parts of the building was not far removed from that sort of feeling.

On the Saturday, having spent the day visiting local attractions, the two of them had a large dinner, several bottles of wine and retired to their room where they continued to drink from the mini-bar. Several hours later, tired and significantly inebriated our friend realises that its not long before he's going to pass out so they climb into bed. After turning out the lights and immediately before relinquishing his grip on consciousness he looks up and asks "Does that look like an axe murder in the corner?"

He awoke about 10ish the following morning to find his girlfriend tired, stressed and more than a little upset. She'd spent the entire night unable to sleep, turning the room light on to check for monsters an unable to wake him for either company or admonishment.

When he told me us this story, I laughed so hard I snorted beer up my nose.
