On Saturday I did something I haven't done for ages. I went out clubbing to a "big" club.
Alan and I made the 45 minute trek up to Coalville to go to Passion and had an excellent time. Unfortunately we had to leave just as Lisa Lashes started her set and we were gutted. I haven't seen Lisa Lashes play live.
But it did prove to me that the dance music scene seems to be stagnating and may even have gone into decline. 2 years ago you couldn't move on the Internet for Club Listings, most updated weekly or monthly telling you which clubs were open on what nights and who was playing.
Alan & I decided on Saturday afternoon we wanted to go out, but didn't know where. So we looked for a few listings. Half of the listings I remembered were no longer there; those that were, were without fail 6 to 12 months out of date. And if the enthusiasm of those who promote the clubs has waned, you can bet the enthusiasm of the punters will not be far behind.
A whole pile of clubs I've always wanted to go to have either closed down or changed to smaller venues. Clubs that ran good, informative websites have stopped updating them, or even closed them.
I guess the scene has peaked, as we always knew it would. I don't think it'll ever die out completely but it'll never be what it was.
Whilst you were clubbing it up at the Emporium I was about 2 miles away doing the mum thing.
I nearly bought a house in Coalville a couple of years ago.
Coalville's a nice place and The Emporium puts on a goods night. I think it gets let down a bit by all the p*ssheads who travel to Coalville for the pubs & clubs though.
