You can dance with the Devil Google...

...but the Devil don't change.

Not so long ago I was a little chuffed that I'd managed to get my employers website to rank #2 on Google for our chosen search terms.

This week I decided to capitalise on that success and try to get different page on the site to rank on the first page of results for different search terms.

So far I have succeeded for

V-A-T A-d-v-i-c-e
V-A-T C-o-n-s-u-l-t-a-n-t-s
V-A-T C-o-n-s-u-l-t-a-n-t
V-A-T C-o-n-s-u-l-t-a-n-c-y
V-A-T P-r-o-f-e-s-s-i-o-n-a-l-s
V-A-T H-e-l-p
(terms spaced to avoid this page turning up in the above searches.

and a number of other less important search terms including the word VAT.

So I'm feeling a little smug at the moment.

Also useful is to make a search-term a sub-directory, eg. .../v-a-t_p-a-y-m-e-n-t-s.html That works really well, too. Minus the dashes, of course!!! But of course nothing is worth time of day if that's not the search word or term people type into search engines.

I found an interesting short piece in a business mag this week where the company concerned was well happy with its 55 hits a month ! It's a 3-Star hotel so probably has a pretty good conversion rate of hits to paying customers at say 60 or 70 GBP a night. It's all relative.
