I've not blogged about this since we started the process. Mainly because nothing seemed to be happening. Progress has come in many tiny steps none of them seeming significant. A letter here, a form there.
So far, we've met with Social Services 4 times. It's been more like a job application than anything else. We've given details of previous jobs and former addresses. We've completed police disclosure forms to be allowed to adopt our own kid.
Social Services have spoken to our parents, to James' biological father and, next week, they will speak to James. They expect James to have an "age appropriate" awareness of his situation whatever that is. They did, however, help us work out how we were going to broach the subject.
And suddenly we're ready to apply for the court hearing. We're possibly only weeks away from James being legally my son. And it feels right.
