My work's VAT Advice website has completely disappeared from the Google search results for the term Google Search: vat advice. We'd been varying from second to eighth but always on the front page. Now suddnely we dissappear completely for no apparent reason.
The site is still listed by Google because we still rank for some of our secondry key words. I thought it might just be a temporary glitch during the much discussed Google Dance. So I checked with a Google Dance Machine, which shows the results of a search from several different Google servers. All showed the same result, so it would appear the update has finished and the change is permanent. I guess I'll have to wait to see if it shakes out again next month.
It's always a good idea to resubmit to Google the URL for your Home Page every 5 or so weeks.
In terms of Google, there's quite a difference between a blog site and a non-blog one. The fact that you often write something (in many people's case just about anything'll do) on a blog site's Home Page will keep you on Google's lists.
Without wanting to sound derogatory : I don't. As is the case with many 'traditional' business websites the Home Page on your VAT site has been put up and then left untouched. It is I have to say more like a 'Splash Page'. This might have gone against you.
To correct the situation, perhaps you could place a 400-500 word article on your VAT Home Page where you mention 'V-A-T a-d-v-i-c-e' and all your other key target phrases several times.
From time to time, it happens to me to fall off Google's lists, so I know how you feel.
Good Luck!
