Entropy is inevitable and it brings with it Chaos. The laws of physics state that everything will tend toward chaos. Ordered systems will break down and energy, currently clustered in clumps such as stars, planets and people, will eventually spread itself evenly across the universe before running out completely.
So, how is it in this chaotic universe that things synchronise with each other? Think about the Moon. In order for the same side of the Moon to face the Earth permanently the Moon must be spinning at exactly the same rate as it is orbiting the Earth. Can you imagine how remote the chances of that happening by coincidence are? Something must be causing that to happen.
The science of synchronisity was the subject of an excellent short programme called The Material World that I caught yesterday. You can listen to it online if you're interested.
wow. synchronisity is totally awesome.i hadn't thought of it that way
