A friend of mine has started a new home business making and selling gift boxes / hampers for new babies and new mums (I've mentioned it sometime in the past).
I felt that the product she putting was together was excellent but she had no way of selling it. So I put together a website for her at Baby Gift Boxes by Faye
The site is up and running but I'm having difficulty marketing it effectively on a zero budget. See more after the break....
Faye creates unique gift boxes / hampers. She has carefully selected a range of good quality products that are practical and / or adorable and put them together in a single gift box that can be delivered directly to the door of the recipient if required. The package is topped off with a handmade gift tag or card. Extras can be added if required such as Freshly Caught Fairy Folk.
I've compared her product to some of the many other sites on the internet and it comes out very favourably. Instead of just 5 or 6 items for £40 to £50, even Faye's standard New Baby Gift Box has over 13 items for just £30. So I'm convinced that it will sell well if I can get enough visitors to her site.
And this is where the problem lies. At the moment the site is attracting between 8 and 13 hits a day. I've had some experience of Search Engine Optimisation and have had good result rankings for this site on MSN and others but can't get good search results on Google. The good results on MSN and others are only attracting 2 or 3 hits per day but I think a good ranking on Google could produce 10 to 20 times that amount.
I also think that maybe I need to market the product some other way. Something else that costs next to nothing that might pique peoples interest but, unusually, I'm completely out of ideas.
I've been working on this on and off for about 2 months now and it's become a bit of an obsession. I am determined to get people visiting the site and buying her product. Right now, I'm just not sure how.
Hey. You popped up on my referrers list so I thought I would say hi. Like yourself, I do mobile discos, although mine is more of a pocket money kinda venture. Still give the customer what they want though! Keep up the good work, and good luck with those baby boxes!
Came through looking for softick II reviews. Saw your baby page. One tip, when you have an exclusive item and want to sell on the web (or in any impulse purchase opportunity) the front page is your last page of opportunity. 4 great reasons and 4 great pictures and 1 call to action (BUY!) See Apples http://www.ipod.com site for a beautiful example.
