I decided about a month ago that the Shoutbox I was using was a complete waste of space. Very rarely used and 9 out of every 10 messages was spam that I deleted immediately. I simply don't have a circle of online friends with whom to converse via that sort of medium.
So, I have unused space on my website, which is receiving 150 to 200 visitors per day currently. What shall I do with it? So I thought I might give Google's Adsense a whirl.
I registered with them about a month ago and received a response very quickly. Unfortunately "the website currently associated with your account does not meet our programme criteria" and I was not accepted into their programme. I left it at that for a short while.
A week or so ago I emailed them back to ask why this site did not meet their criteria. I received an email back today to say I'd been accepted.
So the Shoutbox has gone. And in its place is a cushty little Adsense / Adwords box. I plan to lie back, put my feet up on the desk and let the money roll in. (Now, if I could get our outgoings down to £5 per month I'll be on easy street).
Man, I think I'm gonna miss the "click here to visit my site" links. It was like playing russian roulette when I'm here at work.
Good point! Please feel free to continue clicking on the links that have taken their place. Just pretend that all the adverts read:
"Nice Site. Check out mine at www.definately-not-pr0n.com"
