2 months ago, with my tongue firmly in my cheek, I linked to a Weekly World News article suggesting that Al-Qaeda was developing a bomb that would turn entire American cities into homosexuals (quite an exciting prospect if you're a gay or lesbian American who's having difficulty getting a date).
Well, however ridiculous that notion is, it would appear that the US Forces research labs were developing just that type of weapon 10 years ago. Sort of.
New Scientist reports that recently publicised papers show the US Air Force was seeking funding for research into non-lethal chemical weapons with some bizarre intentions.
Most bizarre among the plans was one for the development of an "aphrodisiac" chemical weapon that would make enemy soldiers sexually irresistible to each other. Provoking widespread homosexual behaviour among troops would cause a "distasteful but completely non-lethal" blow to morale, the proposal says.
It's often stated that truth is stranger than fiction but rarely proven so spectacularly.
