British Formula 1 Grand Prix

My fathers day present this year is less permanent than previous but should be a more enjoyable experience. I've been bought a ticket to the British Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone this year. My good friend and fellow mobile DJ, Alan, is coming with me. The tickets arrived today (at least I think they did, the package needed signing for and we weren't in).

The race is on Sunday and I'm starting to look forward to it.

I've never been to anything like this before and I have no idea what to expect. Luckily www.britishgrandprixsilverstone.co.uk has a guide on how best to enjoy a Grand Prix and what to take with you.

We've already decided we're taking a portable telly and/or radio, a couple of lightweight camping chairs and some ear plugs. The weather is looking good changeable. All we need to sort out is how to get there.

Silverstone's own website is, frankly, crap unless you want to pay an extortionate amount for parking. Besides which, with the reports of 4 hour queues to get in and out of the venue last year I don't fancy trying to drive it.

Some websites say that shuttle buses run from Northampton or Milton Keynes Train Stations. Others, that there is no public transport at all. So I'm none the wiser.

Go camping! Drive down on Friday and get to a campsite. Litchlale is a good one that is right next to the curcuit. It's a great way to do it. If you haven't got seat tickets then you need to be in the curcuit very early to get a good place. I think gates open at 5am or 6am. Don't wonder in at 10am cos most of the good places will have been taken. If you are goinf there only on Sunday then get there early!! Set off very early in the morning.

You will LOVE it

Darren
