Charles Kennedy Quits

I don't have much time for "party politics". I find it difficult to accept any one party because only some of their policies will be aligned with mine. I normally have even less time for individual politicians.

However, I am genuinely disappointed that Charles Kennedy, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has been forced to step down.

The LibDems are probably further from my own political leanings than either Labour or Conservative but I have a genuine respect for Mr Kennedy. I find it sad that a person these days is not allowed to have or show any weakness at all without it being exploited by others. It will simply breed a generation of politicians who have no experience of real life.

If the man has had a problem with drink and still taken the LibDems to their best showing in recent history, imagine what he could have done if he'd been given the support of his peers to overcome this demon.

On a personal level I hope this spurs him on to overcome his problem and that he once again returns to front bench politics. I also hope that this episode hasn't damaged the LibDems standing in the eyes of the voting public. I honestly think this country would benefit from a serious 3 party option.

i pretty much agree, i'd much rather see a politician admit they had a drink problem | smoked pot at uni | enjoyed 3 in a bed romps with prostitutes than pretened to be "perfect".

to be forced out over something as minor as liking a bit of a drink seems to be a wasted opertunity for the lib dems
